    Examples

  • Wakey-wakey

    Wakey-wakey

    said to someone in order to wake them up from sleep

    Examples

    Gloria knocked on n the door and shouted “Wakey-wakey!”

    Wakey wakey people, this is euthanasia by stealth.

  • Lukewarm

    lukewarm

    moderately warm ;  Lacking conviction: 

    a lukewarm bath

    lukewarm coffee

    gave them only lukewarm support

    He was lukewarm to her proposal  and he rejected the proposal completely several days later.

  • Tripe

    Tripe

    something that someone has said or written that you think is silly and worthless

    Examples

    I’ve never heard such a load of tripe in all my life. 

    She was spouting  her usual tripe from way up there on her high horse.

    Examples

    Sabre rattling! Take no notice, it’s  all bluff.

    a person whose actions are unpredictable and uncontrollable. 

    Examples

    While some would be afraid to hire such a loose cannon, others see raw talent.

    They were both loose cannons and  both wanted complete domination.

    I need everyone on my team to be on the same page and to work together—I don’t want any loose cannons causing chaos.

  • Threadbare

    wearing threadbare clothes; shabby or poor; meager, scanty, or poor; hackneyed; trite; ineffectively stale

    Examples

    A threadbare old man.

    A threadbare  living condition.

    Threadbare  arguments.

    The economic model is as threadbare as many of the buildings and much of the country’s  infrastructure.

    A man from threadbare carpets.

  • Poke the bear

    to provoke or disturb a situation or person that could become dangerous or troublesome

    Examples

    By challenging the reigning champion, he was essentially poking the bear.

    Those warmongers kept poking the bear.

  • Whinger & whiner

    Whinger  & whiner

    whinger: a person who complains repeatedly. If you call someone a whinger, you are critical of them because they complain about unimportant things all the time

    Examples

    Shut up, you moaning whinger.  

    His friend Jon is such a whinger.

    Whiner: someone who complains a lot, especially in a peevish, self-pitying manner or tone

    Examples

    Being a whiner at work just makes you look petty, childish, and untrustworthy.

    I’m not a whinger. I’m not a whiner. I’m a very happy, jolly, positive person who’s always looking forwards. 

  • Fall in line to /with; fall into line to /with

    Fall in line to/with; fall into line to / with

    Adhere to established rules or predetermined courses of action.

     For example

    This idea falls in line with the entire agenda.

     It wasn’t easy to get all the tenants to fall into line concerning the rent hike . 

    They became indoctrinated to fall in line to the (liberals’) agenda and  couldn’t reason out solutions to solve problems on their own that they encountered during and through life.
